AKC S.T.A.R. PUPPY PROGRAM

We exclusively provide in-home puppy training, offering you and your furry companion the undivided attention you both deserve. There are compelling reasons why this personalized approach outshines group class training:

Tailored Learning Experience: Our 1-on-1 sessions are meticulously customized to address your specific needs and those of your puppy. We recognize that each puppy is unique, and by working directly in your home, we can create a training plan that's perfectly suited to your circumstances.

Earning an AKC certification is a great way to demonstrate your dog’s training, manners, and reliability in both home and public settings. As an official AKC Evaluator, we offer a variety of certification programs including the Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Urban CGC, Community Canine, and STAR Puppy.

These titles not only validate your dog’s progress, but also lay the foundation for therapy work, service dog training, and advanced obedience. Whether you're just starting out or preparing for the next level, our goal is to guide you and your dog through each step of the process with clarity and confidence.

Dog giving a high five

"Earning an AKC certification is more than just a badge. It’s proof your dog exhibits excellent manners, reliability, and public readiness. Since its launch in 1989, the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program has certified over one million dogs across all breeds. Designed around a 10-step testing process, CGC emphasizes good behavior in everyday scenarios, from accepting friendly strangers and walking politely on leash to calmly handling distractions and brief separations.

Many therapy dog and service dog programs require CGC as a prerequisite because it proves your dog can maintain composure and follow instructions even in unfamiliar or stressful situations. Beyond its role in public access work, CGC training also helps reduce common behavioral issues like excessive barking, destructive chewing, and mild aggression, ultimately strengthening the bond between you and your dog.

We offer CGC, Urban CGC, STAR Puppy, Community Canine tests, and even AKC-approved Therapy Dog evaluations. Each step is tailored to build on the last, helping your dog become a confident, courteous, and community-ready companion, whether that’s walking calmly downtown or spreading smiles as a therapy dog."

AKC CANINE GOOD CITIZEN

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program is a widely recognized certification that promotes good manners and obedience in dogs. It is built around a 10-step evaluation that tests behaviors like walking calmly on leash, accepting friendly strangers, and responding to basic commands. CGC is often a requirement for therapy and service dog programs due to its focus on public readiness and reliable behavior. Earning this title shows that your dog is a well-behaved member of both your home and the community.

AKC COMMUNITY CANINE

The Community Canine program is the advanced level of the AKC Canine Good Citizen series. It tests your dog’s ability to perform CGC-level skills in real-world settings like parks, sidewalks, or busy public areas. Dogs must demonstrate reliable behavior with more distractions and increased distance from their handler. This certification shows your dog can remain calm, focused, and well-mannered in everyday environments.

AKC URBAN CANINE

The AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen (Urban CGC) is the advanced level of the CGC program and focuses on real-world manners in busy public environments. This test evaluates your dog’s ability to remain calm and obedient in settings like crowded sidewalks, elevators, outdoor cafés, and through traffic noise. It builds on the foundation of basic CGC skills but adds challenges that simulate everyday city or suburban life. Passing the Urban CGC demonstrates that your dog is not only well-behaved but also confidently prepared to accompany you in high-distraction, real-world situations.

AKC THERAPY DOG

The AKC Therapy Dog program recognizes dogs who provide comfort and affection to people in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, and other settings. To earn this title, dogs must complete a minimum number of documented therapy visits and demonstrate consistent good behavior, calmness, and friendliness with a variety of people. While the AKC does not certify therapy dogs directly, it partners with approved therapy organizations to track and reward their service. Earning this title highlights your dog’s role in improving lives and bringing joy to those in need.

AKC TRICK DOG

The AKC Trick Dog program is a fun and engaging way to show off your dog’s talents while strengthening your bond through positive training. Dogs can earn titles by performing a series of tricks across five different levels, with each level increasing in difficulty. Tricks may include basics like spin, shake, and roll over, or more advanced tasks like opening a door or retrieving specific items. To begin, your dog must have a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title or pass the CGC test as part of the trick evaluation. Open to all breeds and ages, this program encourages creativity, focus, and confidence while giving both you and your dog a rewarding experience.

AKC TEMPERAMANT TEST

The AKC Temperament Test (ATT) is designed to assess a dog’s emotional stability, confidence, and reaction to common real-world experiences. It includes exposure to unfamiliar people, sudden noises, visual surprises, and unusual surfaces to see how a dog naturally responds. Unlike obedience-based tests, the ATT focuses on temperament rather than training, giving a clearer picture of a dog’s true personality and resilience. The test is open to all breeds and mixed breeds at least 1 year old. Dogs that pass show they are stable, predictable, and able to navigate the world without fear or inappropriate reactivity. These qualities are especially important for dogs involved in therapy work, advanced training, or simply living as calm, reliable companions.

AKC SCENT WORK

The AKC Scent Work program taps into your dog’s natural ability to detect and locate specific scents. Inspired by professional detection dog training, this sport allows dogs to search for hidden target odors in a variety of environments such as containers, interior rooms, exterior spaces, and buried elements. It builds focus, confidence, and teamwork between dog and handler while providing great mental stimulation. Open to all breeds and mixed breeds, Scent Work is both a competitive sport and an enjoyable way to engage your dog’s strongest sense — their nose.
