Constructional Aggression Treatment

Our Constructional Aggression Treatment (CAT) program is designed for dogs struggling with aggressive or reactive behavior toward people, animals, or specific situations. We focus on helping your dog make better choices through calm, structured exposure. By working at their pace and reinforcing non-reactive behavior, we teach your dog that staying calm is not only possible — it’s more effective.

This approach is especially helpful for dogs dealing with issues like resource guarding, where they may protect food, toys, furniture, or even something as simple as a piece of paper. What they choose to guard isn’t up to us — it’s based on what they find valuable. Another common type of aggression we work with is fear-based aggression, where a dog becomes overly defensive far too quickly in response to perceived threats.

Dog

"Constructional Aggression Treatment (CAT) is a behavior modification method that helps aggressive or reactive dogs learn to respond calmly to triggers.

Instead of avoiding the problem or punishing outbursts, CAT uses controlled setups where the dog is exposed to a trigger at a safe distance. When the dog chooses a calm response instead of reacting, the trigger is removed as a reward.

Over time, the dog learns that staying calm is the best way to get what they want — creating safer, more reliable behavior through choice and positive reinforcement."

WHY OUR PROGRAM WORKS

Home Environment Advantage

When we conduct training sessions in your home, the lessons are imprinted in the very environment where your dog lives and interacts. This ensures that the training is not only effective but also consistent. Your dog learns behaviors and boundaries within the context of your home, setting the standard for how they should behave in that familiar environment.

Real-World Behavior Success

We don’t train dogs just to sit in a classroom—we train them to succeed in real-life situations. Whether it's walking calmly through a crowded park or staying focused during a busy family gathering, our programs are designed to build reliable behavior in the environments that matter most. Confidence, consistency, and clear communication are the keys to long-term success.

Positive Socialization

To give your dog a well-rounded learning experience, we also include safe and structured socialization. Your dog will interact with our well-behaved dogs to build confidence and develop healthy social skills through positive, real-world experiences. We also focus on teaching your dog how to greet people calmly and respectfully. No more jumping or rushing up to strangers instead, your dog will learn to stay controlled, wait for permission, and approach people with good manners.

Consistency is Key

Our programs builds reliable obedience and real-life manners through consistent, focused work five days a week, right in your home. By scheduling multiple lessons up front, we create momentum and structure that one-off sessions simply can't match. Instead of showing up without a plan, we follow a clear progression that builds on each lesson. This approach delivers faster, more lasting results and gives you the kind of consistency that scattered lessons just can’t offer.

Program Cost And How This Program Works

The cost of our Constructional Aggression Treatment program depends on your dog’s specific needs. There’s a big difference between a dog that’s aggressive towards dogs and one that’s aggressive towards people and houseguests. That’s why we always start with a consultation to determine the best approach for your dog. Depending on what we’re addressing, we may recommend either a custom program or a daily training program.

Our custom program has two options: a 5-lesson plan for one payment of $450, or a 10-lesson plan split into two payments of $450. Our daily training program is ideal for more intensive support. The 2-week daily training program is split into two payments of $450, while the 3-week daily training program is three payments of $450 and is best suited for severe cases — like dogs with a known bite history. We’ll help guide you to the right plan so your dog can make steady, confident progress.

Program Breakdown

Program Breakdown

Lessons 1–5: Obedience Training

at Home

The first week of the program focuses on solidifying on-leash obedience and clear communication in your home environment. We build consistency with basic commands, address unwanted behaviors, and help your dog stay engaged even around mild distractions. These early sessions lay the groundwork for transitioning to off-leash control.

Lessons 6–10: Public Exposure

& Off-Leash Foundation

In week two, we begin working in public settings while gradually introducing off-leash concepts. We reinforce focus, recall, and handler awareness using long lines and safe open spaces. Your dog learns to respond reliably in more stimulating environments while staying connected to you without relying on a leash.

Lessons 11–15: Off-Leash Reliability

& Real-World Application

The final week is all about proofing obedience and off-leash behavior in high-distraction areas. We work in real-world settings like trails, parks, and busier public spaces to ensure your dog can perform reliably under pressure. You’ll also receive hands-on coaching to help you handle your dog confidently and maintain control in any environment.
